When purchasing an HDTV, perhaps you will be asked if you will take an 1080p HDTV or not. You may then get confused about what it is.

Screen resolution usually refers to the amount of "small dots" or pixels in an HDTV picture. When it comes to screen resolution, the basic logic is the more pixels, the better image quality. Then what about this type of HDTV, does it content the standard of good screen resolution.

720p HDTV and 1080p HDTV

As Regards the resolution, HDTVs have two resolution levels. The lower is called 720p and the higher is called 1080p. Basically, the term 720p means that it is a progressive display and has 720 rows of pixels.

The letter "p" in 720p and 1080p HDTV stands for progressive. Progressive display means that the screen shows a full picture 30 times each second and then erases it.

Going 1080p HDTV or Staying With 720p

It would be better to opt this HDTV set if you are opting to go with HDTV that have big screens (50 inches and above). A lower resolution like 720p will produce choppy images.

Nevertheless, though this HDTV seems to be better, there are a few advantages of screen resolution 720p. Mainly, an HDTV screen resolution is more resolution if you consider content.

It will be not very obvious if the screen is smaller than 50 inches. So, why go with this expensive type of HDTV if you want to have screen that is smaller than 50 inches. The 720p HDTV is more advantageous in this case.
