Knowing HDTV terms that is entangled with terms such as CRT, LCD,
Plasma, flat-panel, front or rear projection, to name but a few, can be a
shock when you realize that you have to know some of what I am about to
tell you.
CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube and it is one of the
oldest types of television. Other then being very heavy it has been a
long lasting product. CTR TV was good while it lasted.
Since the
television technology has changed to follow the higher definition
success of the computer monitor, people has become accustomed to the
better quality picture and sound that the later models differentiate
from the older types of televisions.
To make it easy to
understand we can say that this technological advancement can be
categorized in 3 major developments. LCD, Plasma and then HDTV. What
makes it difficult for many people that set out to buy a tv, is to
understand all these terms. What makes it even more difficult is the
fact that you now get LCD HDTV and Plasma HDTV.
Since you may
want to buy one of the latest HDTV Plasma TVs and it may not be falling
into the price range to fit your budget, I suggest you to educate
yourself a bit towards the television technology and what you may get
when you buy a cheaper tv of the shelf without getting to know the facts
first.
The television that the most people currently have in
their homes are the CRT we have looked at earlier. Since the quality of
the tv's display now on average is about 3 times of what you are most
likely looking at on your television, you may want to upgrade and buy a
plasma HDTV.
What makes the picture of a HDtv Plasma tv a better
quality than the older Cathode Ray Tube television? Other than
developments that changed the way television screens handle the display,
making the newer screens show smoother than their predecessors, they
also increased definition.
An increase in definition is just
showing more detail of the picture. The definition of the display is
shown as the amount of pixels that lights up with different colors,
making the picture appear real. More pixels cramped into a picture make
the detail higher and hence the picture sharper.
But does it
really matter if there are a significant difference in quality and
sharpness? Watching a football game shown on two different types of
television will make this clear. On the HDTV Plasma or LCD tv you will
see things you will miss out on the older models. Yes, really!
Unless
you specifically look for it you may see more detail looking at the
closer objects without realizing why the picture is nicer to look at.
But it is by looking at further objects, especially then when you
realize what you are missing out on the standard quality tv.

but would rather opt for the HDTV Plasma tv:
HDTV LCD may
sometimes display a ghost effect and to make sure you are not displeased
with your LCD HDTV purchase either watch it next to an HDTV Plasma
screen or check the screens frequency against other more expensive
models in the range of LCD tvs.
